The Petrides School

Sepember 7, 2022
Dear Parents,

Please ignore this email if your child has graduated or moved on.  We appreciate your patience as we update our email distribution list.

We hope to see you tonight at our Back to School Event – come any time between 5:00 and 7:30 pm to pick up your child’s Welcome packet.  You may drop off your child’s school supplies.  We will be selling Petrides apparel.

Parent Orientation Meetings:

5:00pm PreK

5:30 pm Kindergarten

6:00 pm 5th grade and new-to-Petrides 6th grade families

7:00 pm Freshman

If you’ve unable to make it: Packets will be distributed to students tomorrow.  Individual student schedules (for middle and high school students) will be available for pick up during morning arrival.

As we prepare for the first days of school, be reminded that our regular school day is 8:00 am to 2:20 pm.  Note the following exceptions:

  • PreK students will be dismissed beginning at 2:00 pm, at the identified “Walker Doors” in the Quad
  • The start and end time for high school students may vary according to their individual schedule.  Upper classmen, including juniors and seniors have a later start time on some days and may have an earlier release time.  While students may leave at the end of their school day, the School Library and Study Hall options are available for students until 2:20 pm.

With the opening of the Hungerford School building on our campus, we have worked with the Department of Transportation to plan for a safe and orderly flow of traffic in and around our school.  Please follow the identified traffic pattern and obey the rules of road when driving on campus.

As usual, we expect minor delays during drop-off and pick-up on the first few days of school.  Please read below to understand the expected flow of traffic on campus.  We appreciate your cooperation in following these established protocols and thank you for your patience and everyone settles into the flow of things.

  • MORNING DROP OFF: For the safety of all, we are suggesting that all parents who drop their child(ren) to school (grades Pre K through 12) to use our Stop and Drop services located at Circular Drive (inside the campus).  DO NOT stop to let students out at the flagpole as this will disrupt the two-way flow of traffic.
  • AFTERNOON PICK-UP: There are limited parking spots in the Visitor’s Parking Lot reserved for parents picking up children in the afternoon.  These spots will be “unlocked” and available to parents beginning at 1:30 pm.  We suggest using yellow school bus transportation (for K-8 students) where appropriate.

We ask that you drive safely and slowly in and around our campus.  And, that you follow established traffic patterns and rules when driving and comply with pedestrian guidelines, including crossing at designated crosswalks, when walking.

We are a school uniform school (grades PreK-8).

The school uniform policy is intended to help school promote a more effective learning climate; foster school unity and pride; improve student performance; foster self-esteem; eliminate label competition; simplify dressing and minimize costs to parents; teach children appropriate dress and decorum in their “work” place; and help to improve student conduct and discipline.

Our School Uniform will be comprised of the following:

  • Light blue shirt (short or long sleeves/polo or button down)
  • Navy blue pants or navy blue skirt/jumper

You must purchase uniforms directly and may buy clothing that satisfies the uniform requirement at any vendor/store of your choice.  There are many purchasing options at various price points; for example, pants, skirts, cardigans, and any other uniform accessories can be purchased at any store – J.C. Penny’s, Kohl’s, Old Navy, Gap, Cookies Uniform Store or Children’s Place.

We suggest that Elementary and Middle School students dress appropriately for physical activity on days the attend Physical Education class.
