The Petrides School
PRINCIPAL’S WEEKLY MESSAGE
Dear Petrides Families,
Here is to another great week at Panther Nation!!
The summer was a busy time at The Petrides School. There were many happenings that we are proud to introduce in our 2024 – 2025 school year.
- Our Elementary school has a dedicated sensory room.
- A sensory space in the school environment promotes a positive school culture and climate in supporting student’s health and wellbeing. Sensory spaces can benefit all students. This safe space allows students to regulate creating optimizing learning and participation in the school environment. To learn more about sensory spaces in schools please see the article from NCSE.

- Science classes have been added in our elementary grades. This cluster class has been scheduled for all our students from kindergarten – 4th grade.
- WIN (What I Need) time has been programmed for all our elementary student. WIN time has a specific instruction, support and an enrichment focus that is based on data for each individual student.
- A new Virtual Enterprise lab has been created. With 32 high powered computers the lab will be the home for our new VE classes being offered in middle and high school.
- Our successful high school peer mediation program will be pushed down to service our middle school students. This highly sought after program will help support students to solve conflicts.
- A new UFT teacher center, with two dedicated coaches for our staff. The UFT center will provide our staff with opportunities to learn and grow. With refined skills, the staff will be better equipped to provide a sound education to all our students.
- Our auditorium has been given a facelift. The seating and stage have been refinished and the old carpet has been lifted for a new wood flooring. The stage is set for this year’s theater performances.
- New, environmentally friendly, water bottle filling stations have been added throughout the building for student and staff usage. The new stations are being tested and will be ready for use very soon.
- The DOE has announced that all school entrances will be locked and secured by 2025. The Petrides School was able to be first on the list. The expected date of completion is November.
