An ariel view of the Petrides Campus

Nestled on a beautiful 43-acre campus at 715 Ocean Terrace, The Michael J. Petrides School opened in 1995 on the former site of the College of Staten Island. The school is named in honor of long-time educator Michael J. Petrides, who dedicated 29 years to the College as a professor of electrical technology and dean of administration. A respected leader in New York City’s Board of Education, Mr. Petrides was instrumental in shaping educational policy and inspiring excellence in school leadership.

Today, The Michael J. Petrides School stands as a vibrant Pre-Kindergarten through 12th-Grade community, offering students a seamless and supportive educational journey from their earliest years through high school graduation. As a non-zoned school, admission is determined through a lottery process that varies by grade level. Detailed information about admissions can be found on the following pages.

Set against the backdrop of our spacious and scenic campus, students enjoy access to outstanding athletic and recreational facilities, including football, soccer, and baseball fields, as well as handball and tennis courts. Our diverse athletics program features sports such as football, wrestling, volleyball, lacrosse, track, bowling and more, providing students with opportunities to develop teamwork, school spirit, and lifelong fitness.

Beyond athletics, Petrides offers a wide variety of clubs and extracurricular activities that encourage creativity, leadership, and service. Students can participate in groups such as Anime Club, Council for Unity, Debate, Habitat for Humanity, My Brother’s/Sister’s Keeper, Newspaper, Student Government and Yearbook, just to name a few.

Learning extends beyond the classroom, fostering curiosity, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging that prepares students to thrive in college, careers, and life.

At Petrides, our smaller school community allows students, families, and staff to build meaningful relationships that last well beyond graduation. We truly become a family, supporting one another, celebrating each other’s successes, and growing together year after year.
